3rd grade is a time where our students take all the skills they have learned and start mastering them.  As students grow older, they continue to learn skills in more complex situations.

Our third graders build strong social skills working together in group projects, and start sharing their opinions on things.  Our teachers strive to create a fun learning environment and are excited to share a year of new experiences together.
What we teach
Our students continue to build upon their foundation in mathematics, literacy, social students, and science.  You can visit our Academic Services Department to get an in-depth look at what information they will learn in 2nd grade.

Our 2nd graders also participate in the following encore classes and some in the GATORS Program:

Basketball and whistle iconElementary Physical Education
Physical education is important in early childhood not just for physical activity and fitness, but also provides cognitive content, and learning instruction, motor skills, and knowledge.  The skills students learn from the early ages carry on throughout their school journey.

Music Note IconElementary Music Program
The Cedar Springs Elementary Music program educates students to become confident and independent musicians. The elementary music curriculum provides opportunities to explore sound through singing, moving, listening, and playing instruments.

Art IconElementary Visual Art Curriculum
The Cedar Springs Elementary Visual Art Curriculum gives each student learning experiences and balanced art education. We provide four goals: art production, aesthetic perception, historical and cultural perspectives, and art criticism.

GATORS Program
GATORS stands for Getting Ahead Through Outstanding Reading Strategies.
GATORS is a research-based program that provides students with one-to-one support for half an hour daily.  During that time, students learn to use a variety of reading strategies that help them become more independent as they progress to higher levels of reading. All parents are notified when their child has been identified to be part of the GATORS.
